Nashville, TN — Two separate traffic stops over the weekend in Sumner County resulted in five arrests, the seizure of several firearms, and large quantities of drugs, including marijuana.
On Saturday, January 4, a Sumner County deputy pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. However, during the stop, one of the vehicle’s occupants fled the scene on foot. After a brief pursuit, the deputy was able to apprehend the suspect.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a stolen Glock handgun, which had been equipped with a switch designed to convert the weapon into a fully automatic firearm. Authorities also discovered a substantial amount of marijuana that had been packaged for resale. Four individuals, all from Nashville, were arrested in connection with the incident. The identities of the suspects and the specific charges against them have not been disclosed by law enforcement at this time.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Facebook praising the efforts of the patrol division, emphasizing their commitment to preventing outside criminal activity from entering the community. “We remain committed to protecting Sumner County by keeping outside criminal activity from taking hold in our communities and are proud of the proactive work our patrol division consistently performs,” the statement read.
The following day, on Sunday, January 5, deputies made another arrest during a traffic stop despite the harsh weather conditions, including frozen rain. David Smith, a convicted felon from Nashville with prior drug-related convictions in both Shelby and Davidson counties, was arrested after a probable cause search of his vehicle uncovered a firearm with its serial number scratched off, as well as a large quantity of marijuana prepared for resale.
In response to the arrest, the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office shared another message on social media, stating, “We may not control the weather, but we do control how hard we work to keep Sumner County safe.
