NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A fatal motorcycle crash on Interstate 24 East near Harding Place caused significant traffic delays in Davidson County on Sunday, February 2. The crash, which occurred shortly after 2:45 p.m., resulted in the death of a motorcyclist and blocked all eastbound lanes of the interstate for several hours.

According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the incident took place at mile marker 56, involving a Harley Davidson FLT motorcycle, driven by 36-year-old Derek McIntosh of Smithville. Preliminary investigations by the Metro Nashville Police Department revealed that McIntosh was attempting to merge onto I-24 East from Harding Place when he collided with the side of a tractor-trailer. The motorcycle then slid underneath the truck, fatally injuring McIntosh.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but McIntosh was pronounced dead at the site. Authorities noted that there was no evidence of impairment from either McIntosh or the driver of the tractor-trailer.

The crash led to a complete blockage of eastbound traffic on I-24 East, as well as the entry ramp from Harding Place. The closure remained in effect for approximately four hours, causing significant backups and delays for motorists. By 7:15 p.m., TDOT’s traffic cameras showed cleared lanes, and the traffic diversions at Exit 56 (SR-255/Harding Place) and mile marker 53.4 were lifted.

The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers on the road and the importance of safety precautions for both motorcyclists and other drivers. The Metro Nashville Police Department is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
