Nashville, TN – A Nashville woman has been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide by recklessness following a deadly crash that occurred in August. Shynithia L. Stone, 36, was taken into custody on Sunday night in connection with the fatal accident that claimed the life of 46-year-old Tamika Petway.

According to the Nashville Police Department, Stone was driving a 2017 Infiniti QX60 SUV southbound on Gwynnwood Drive on the evening of August 23 when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Ewing Drive. Stone’s vehicle collided with the driver’s side of Petway’s 2018 Chevrolet Camaro, causing severe damage to the car.

Petway was rushed to Skyline Medical Center but tragically died from her injuries. Stone, who sustained non-critical injuries in the crash, was transported from the scene and later arrested after further investigation.

Authorities determined that Stone was speeding at the time of the collision. Data retrieved from the event data recorder in the Infiniti revealed that Stone’s vehicle was traveling between 47 mph and 52 mph just prior to the crash. The posted speed limit for the area was 30 mph.

Stone is being held in lieu of a $76,000 bond while the investigation into the fatal crash continues. The case highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the tragic consequences that can result from speeding and failing to obey traffic signals.
