NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two teenagers have been arrested in separate incidents after making threats against their school principals, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported.
A 17-year-old female student from Antioch High School was arrested on Saturday after posting a threat to Instagram targeting her school principal. The young woman was charged with communicating a threat to a school official and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court.
The following day, a 13-year-old male student from Madison Middle School was taken into custody after emailing a threatening message to his principal. The boy was also charged with communicating a threat to a school official and will face juvenile court proceedings.
These arrests come on the heels of a tragic incident earlier this month at Antioch High School, where 16-year-old student Josselin Corea Escalante was fatally shot when another student opened fire inside the school cafeteria. The shooting has rocked the local community, leading to heightened concern over safety in schools.
In response to the recent threats, MNPD emphasized that any threats made against schools, their staff, or administrators are treated with the utmost seriousness. “Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted,” a spokesperson for the department stated.
The arrests have raised concerns among local residents, many of whom are still grappling with the shock of the Antioch High School shooting. Local officials have not indicated whether the recent threats are connected to the incident, but the timing has raised questions about the broader safety climate in Nashville’s schools.
As the investigations continue, the community remains on high alert, with many advocating for increased security measures and mental health support for students.
