Two People Dead in Crash on Highway 109 in Sumner County

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. — Two individuals have died following a tragic crash that occurred Friday afternoon on Highway 109 in Sumner County, officials reported.

The accident took place around 2 p.m. near East Boiling Springs Road in Portland. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), a 1990 Buick Riviera attempted to cross Highway 109 and make a left turn into the northbound lanes. While crossing, the Buick was struck on the driver’s side door by a 2015 Ford F-150 traveling southbound.

Both occupants of the Buick, identified as 84-year-old Billy Adkins and 84-year-old Rosie Adkins, were killed in the collision. The couple, who were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, did not survive their injuries.

The driver of the Ford, a 20-year-old man, was unharmed in the crash. Authorities stated that the young driver is not facing charges at this time.

The crash caused a temporary closure of Highway 109 at East Boiling Springs Road, but the roadway has since reopened.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
