NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A man was arrested early Monday morning in connection with a shooting that injured a person in a South Nashville apartment complex. The shooting occurred just after 2:30 a.m. at an apartment building located in the 700 block of Spence Lane.
Metro Nashville Police responded to the scene after a man was shot in the left thigh while walking with his brother in a breezeway. The victim told police that the two were approached by a man wearing a black hoodie, who fired several shots without any prior confrontation. He also reported that he did not see where the shooter went afterward.
The injured man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which showed the suspect approaching the victims and briefly interacting with them before firing the gun. The footage also revealed that the man in the black hoodie entered an apartment building, only to emerge later wearing a different set of clothes.
After further investigation, officers located and identified the suspect as 35-year-old Maurice Jones. According to court documents, Jones was questioned by police at MNPD Headquarters, where he allegedly confirmed that he fired the shots at the victim.
Jones was arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony reckless aggravated assault with serious bodily injury. He is currently being held at the Metro jail with a bond set at $300,000.
At this time, authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
