BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating a violent incident that unfolded Wednesday afternoon in a Brentwood neighborhood, resulting in both a stabbing and a shooting.
The Brentwood Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:17 p.m. reporting that a man was stabbing a woman in the area of Lost Hollow Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a neighbor, armed with a handgun, had attempted to intervene and stop the assault.
According to police, the neighbor, who was unable to physically restrain the suspect, fired multiple shots at the man in an effort to protect the woman. The incident occurred in front of several witnesses, and authorities said the situation escalated quickly before law enforcement could arrive.
Emergency responders transported both the stabbing victim and the suspect to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The woman, whose injuries were serious, is expected to recover, while the suspect, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries.
At this time, no charges have been filed against the neighbor who fired the shots. The Brentwood Police Department confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Officials have not released the names of those involved in the incident, and the motives behind the stabbing remain unclear. Local authorities continue to gather witness statements and evidence in an effort to piece together the events leading up to the violent altercation.
As the investigation progresses, police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
