NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A fatal hit-and-run incident occurred Monday evening in South Nashville, leaving one man dead and authorities searching for a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma involved in the crash.

The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that the accident happened just before 7 p.m. on Old Hickory Boulevard near the Interstate 24 interchange. According to investigators, the victim, who was riding an electric scooter, had just pulled out of a Dollar General parking lot and was traveling along the shoulder of the road. As he attempted to cross to the other side of Old Hickory Boulevard, a Toyota Tacoma struck him, trapping him beneath the vehicle.

Witnesses who observed the incident reported seeing sparks coming from beneath the truck as it continued to drag the scooter for more than 900 feet down the road, reaching Firestone Parkway before the vehicle fled the scene. Once the truck left, the victim was freed from underneath and later pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s identity has not been confirmed by officials as of the latest reports.

The suspect vehicle, described as a dark or possibly black Toyota Tacoma, continued traveling down Old Hickory Boulevard toward Murfreesboro Pike. Metro Police have not yet released a photograph of the vehicle.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the truck or its driver to come forward. The public is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.

This fatal accident underscores the dangers faced by pedestrians and scooter riders on busy roadways, and the investigation into the hit-and-run remains ongoing.
