NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has launched a homicide investigation after two men were found fatally shot near a wooded trail between the Lincoya Bay Apartments and Percy Priest Lake on Monday.
According to a statement posted by the MNPD on social media platform X, a resident discovered the bodies while walking the trail late Monday morning. Both victims, described as unidentified men of Hispanic descent, appeared to have died from gunshot wounds. Authorities believe the killings occurred overnight or during the early morning hours and that the shootings happened at the same location where the bodies were found.
MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron confirmed that the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to assist officers at the scene by identifying vehicles that may not belong at the nearby apartment complex. Detectives from the department’s Specialized Investigations Division also arrived to conduct a thorough search of the area and begin their inquiry into the homicides.
“We are looking to see, obviously, if this has any gang affiliation,” Aaron said during a media briefing. “All options are open at this juncture.” He added that federal agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Homeland Security, are also participating in the investigation due to the victims’ background and the nature of the crime.
Metro Councilmember Erin Evans, who represents the area, extended condolences to the families of the victims and voiced support for the investigation. “I hope MNPD is able to locate those suspected to be responsible and bring them to justice,” Evans said in a statement to local media.
The incident has raised safety concerns among residents of the Lincoya Bay Apartments. Whitney Avera, a tenant who moved to the complex in October 2024, expressed frustration over what she described as a lack of law enforcement presence in the area. “In just the small amount of time that we have lived here, we’ve had zero help,” Avera said. “It’s just unfortunate.”
Aaron urged any residents who may have seen suspicious activity in the area late Sunday night or early Monday morning to contact police. Evans also encouraged anyone with potentially helpful information to come forward.
Anyone with information related to the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous.
