NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Congressman John Rose (TN-06) has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the 2026 gubernatorial race, becoming one of the first candidates to announce their candidacy. Rose made the announcement during a luncheon in Williamson County on Wednesday, February 26. Sources close to the Congressman confirmed that he is actively laying the groundwork for his bid, building support for a potential campaign.

As a self-described “conservative outsider” and eighth-generation Tennessee farmer, Rose is emphasizing his roots in the state and his commitment to preserving what he considers the “bedrock Tennessee values.” According to a source familiar with his plans, Rose’s entry into the race is driven by his deep conviction that the future of the country—and Tennessee—begins with strong, conservative leadership at the state level.

Speaking at the event, Rose expressed excitement for his current role in Congress but revealed that he believes his “best days are ahead” and that his true opportunity to serve Tennessee lies in the governor’s office.

“I’m going to come home at the end of this period, and I’m going to offer myself—my plan is to, I have to make that qualification—my plan is to offer myself as a candidate for governor of Tennessee,” Rose said, addressing the crowd in Williamson County.

As of now, Tennessee’s current Governor, Bill Lee, is finishing his second term and cannot run again due to term limits. While Lee has not yet made an endorsement for his successor, Rose’s early entry into the race signals a shift in the state’s political landscape. The 2026 gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 3, 2026, and it remains to be seen who else might enter the race.

Rose, who was raised in Cookeville, resides there with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Sam and Guy. His family has gained some media attention in recent years, particularly when his son, Guy, went viral in 2024 for making humorous faces while his father delivered a speech on the House floor.

According to his official website, Rose’s background as both a farmer and small business owner has shaped his conservative views. He has positioned himself as one of the most conservative members of Congress, advocating for policies in line with his principles of limited government and traditional values.

The 2026 race is expected to draw significant interest, with multiple candidates likely to vie for the position of governor. For now, Rose’s announcement positions him as one of the front-runners in what will be a pivotal election for Tennessee’s future.
