Nashville, TN – A carjacking suspect is in stable condition at Skyline Medical Center after being shot late Tuesday night by officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit. The incident took place at Cumberland Crossing Apartments, located on Rio Vista Drive.

According to police, Detective Brian Quigley and Officer Zachary Wright had been monitoring a stolen vehicle—a green Mercury Marquis sedan—backed into a parking space at the apartment complex. The car had been taken in an armed carjacking on Cheyenne Boulevard the previous Sunday night. As the officers conducted surveillance, 20-year-old Jason P. Brown of Antioch exited the apartment complex, walking toward the building with a gun in hand.

The officers reported that Brown pointed the firearm toward them as he approached. Detective Quigley, wearing a marked police vest, shouted commands at Brown, but the suspect continued walking toward the building entrance. Just moments before Brown dropped the gun, Detective Quigley fired his weapon, with Officer Wright also discharging his service pistol. Brown, who had dropped the firearm, was then provided medical assistance by the officers before being transported to Skyline Medical Center.

The Mercury Marquis was originally stolen during an armed robbery on Sunday when the owner was approached by two men with guns. The assailants took the victim’s phone and car keys before fleeing with the vehicle. Officers had been searching for the car since the robbery. When located, the vehicle had its license plates removed and replaced with a temporary tag.

At the time of the shooting, Brown was on supervised probation after a conviction for attempted auto theft in 2023.

In line with protocol, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is overseeing the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Both Detective Quigley and Officer Wright have been placed on routine administrative assignment while the investigation is underway.

As of now, the incident remains under investigation, and further details will be released once the TBI has completed its inquiry.
