MT. JULIET, Tenn. — The Fire Department of Mt. Juliet has released its 2024 Annual Report, showcasing key developments, ongoing efforts, and community-focused initiatives aimed at maintaining safety in the area.

A significant portion of the report focuses on the department’s response to the area’s growth, particularly in construction. In 2024, the fire department issued 56 fire operational permits and 37 fire suppression permits. Assistant Chief Fire Marshal Brent Blamires noted that the increase in permits is tied to more new construction in Mt. Juliet, a trend that has placed additional demands on the department. To manage this, the Fire Marshal’s Office recently added a new inspector to help stay on top of regular inspections.

Despite the rise in permits and development, Blamires was quick to point out that the department has not observed an uptick in fire investigations or incidents, which is a positive sign. “We haven’t seen an uptick in fire investigations or fires, which is good,” Blamires commented. “It’s best for us to keep them low, and we’re aiming to keep them low again this year as well.”

Community outreach remains a cornerstone of the Fire Marshal’s Office activities. In 2024, officials participated in over 100 community education events, focusing on fire safety education. One of the highlights was the STEM Night at Stoner Creek Elementary School, where the department engaged with students using fire safety-themed coloring books. Additionally, officials visited the Del Webb community, providing fire safety tips to elderly residents, a group that is often more vulnerable in the event of a fire.

The Fire Department has also rolled out a new “pre-plan” initiative, designed to improve response times and efficiency in local businesses. The pre-plan involves mapping out potential fire hazards in business buildings throughout Mt. Juliet. This allows fire departments to better understand and prepare for possible risks before responding to an emergency call. Blamires emphasized the importance of this new program, saying, “All of our engine companies on each shift are going out there and doing a pre-plan on the businesses of Mt. Juliet just to make them aware and also, it’s another way to keep the community safe.”

In addition to these initiatives, the Fire Department offers building inspections and free smoke detectors to residents. This service underscores the department’s commitment to fire prevention and public safety. Blamires encouraged local residents to take advantage of these resources, saying that anyone needing an inspection or a smoke detector should reach out to the department directly.

With the combination of proactive safety measures, community outreach, and increased preparedness, the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet is positioning itself as a key pillar in ensuring the safety and well-being of the growing city. As the year progresses, officials remain focused on maintaining a safe environment for both residents and businesses.
