Sumner County, Tenn. — Authorities intercepted a large shipment of marijuana and potent THC products over the weekend, which were en route to Middle Tennessee from Michigan. The seizure occurred following a traffic stop on Interstate 65 South in Millersville on Saturday, April 12.
The investigation began when agents from the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force stopped a vehicle traveling from Michigan to Nashville. Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement officers discovered the car was packed with marijuana and THC products that are legal in Michigan but illegal in Tennessee.
While initially vague about their whereabouts, the suspects eventually admitted to having traveled from Indiana after obtaining the products in Michigan. During the search, authorities found 22 pounds of marijuana, some of which was packaged into 1-pound bricks. Additionally, dozens of packets containing THC products, including vapes and pre-rolled joints, were seized.
“These products were packaged for distribution,” explained a spokesperson from the drug task force. “Each bag had receipts with the purchaser’s name on them, clearly showing who bought them and how much they paid. The individuals admitted to buying the products in Michigan and were fully aware they were breaking the law by transporting them into Tennessee.”
All four suspects in the vehicle were arrested and charged with felony marijuana offenses. Their names have not yet been released. Authorities say the marijuana and THC products were intended for sale in Tennessee, where such substances remain illegal.
The bust underscores the ongoing challenges posed by the differing state laws on marijuana. While states like Michigan have legalized marijuana and THC products for both medical and recreational use, Tennessee’s strict marijuana laws continue to result in arrests for individuals transporting such goods across state lines.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities noting that this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining vigilance in combating illegal drug trafficking.
