MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — A fatal crash occurred late Thursday night in Murfreesboro, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old motorcyclist.

The incident took place around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of North Rutherford Boulevard and Greenland Avenue. According to the Murfreesboro Police Department, the crash involved a motorcycle and a 2016 Ford Fusion.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the Ford Fusion, who was traveling southbound on North Rutherford Boulevard in the left turn lane, attempted to make a left turn while the light was green. The driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle traveling northbound on the same road.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Blake Raucci, was riding a 2024 Kawasaki EX5. He was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel with the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services.

The identity of the motorcyclist was initially withheld pending notification of out-of-town relatives.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was unharmed in the crash, and no injuries were reported on their side. Police noted that the crash is still under investigation by the Fatal Accident Crash Team, and further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.

In response to the accident, local authorities are taking steps to promote motorcycle safety in the community. The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Traffic Unit, in collaboration with the Rutherford County Traffic Safety Task Force, will host a motorcycle safety event on May 17. The event will run from 10 a.m. to noon at Bumpus Harley-Davidson on NW Broad Street.

The investigation into the crash continues, and authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, especially for motorcyclists, who remain particularly vulnerable in traffic collisions.
