NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities in Nashville are investigating a hit-and-run incident that occurred on Saturday evening, leaving a pedestrian in critical condition. The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has launched a search for the driver of a red SUV believed to be involved in the crash.
The incident unfolded shortly after 6:15 p.m. on February 22, when a 40-year-old man parked his vehicle on the east side of 8th Avenue South near the Melrose neighborhood. As he crossed the street, heading toward a nearby restaurant, he was struck by a northbound red SUV. The impact caused the man to fall onto the road, where he was then struck by a second vehicle.
Although the driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, the driver of the red SUV fled the area following the collision.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, and authorities confirmed on Sunday that he remains in critical condition.
The MNPD has released surveillance footage of the red SUV captured in the area at the time of the incident, in hopes of identifying the driver. Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vehicle or its driver to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
As of now, authorities continue to search for the hit-and-run suspect while working to piece together more details surrounding the incident.
