COTTONTOWN, Tenn. — A 17-year-old male was arrested Monday following a violent family altercation at a Cottontown residence that left his father injured.
The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a stabbing call early Monday morning. According to statements from those involved, the father shot the family dog after it reportedly killed several chickens.
After hearing the gunshot, the teenager went outside to check the henhouse, where the dog had been shot. A confrontation between father and son escalated, and the teen stabbed his father twice. Following the stabbing, the teen went back inside the home, retrieved a handgun, and fired multiple shots outside.
Despite being wounded, the father was able to leave the property and call for help. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.
The teen was taken into custody without further incident. Sumner County Chief Deputy Tommy Greer called the incident “tragic,” highlighting the emotional toll such family disputes take, especially when they involve juveniles.
The investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending.
