NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two years have passed since 26-year-old Kimberly Benezue was tragically killed in a hit-and-run in Madison, but her family and investigators are no closer to finding those responsible. The fatal crash, which occurred on February 4, 2023, has left many unanswered questions and a grieving mother fighting for justice.
Benezue was driving home after a night of celebrating with friends when her life was cut short. At the intersection of Dickerson Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard, a driver in a stolen Dodge Charger crashed into her vehicle, killing her and sending her friend to the hospital. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene, leaving no trace of their identity behind.
According to Metro Police, moments before the crash, officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it was seen performing donuts in the middle of Dickerson Pike. However, the decision was made not to pursue the vehicle, and shortly after, the crash occurred.
Angela Hudson, Benezue’s mother, spoke about the painful moment she received the call informing her of her daughter’s death. “The last words were, ‘I love you, Mom,’ and we got the last hug. The next morning, I got the call,” Hudson recalled. “It’s a call no one wants to receive; it’s a nightmare.”
In the aftermath of the incident, Hudson has been relentless in seeking justice for her daughter. She expressed frustration when, a year later, she learned that DNA evidence from the stolen vehicle had been lost after being sent to the crime lab. In April 2024, Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) confirmed that a third request for evidence was sent to the lab, but it yielded no new results.
“I sit back on the sidelines with no justice and no closure,” Hudson said. “It’s not about an accident; it’s about a crime that has been committed.”
Despite the setbacks, Hudson remains determined to uncover the truth. She believes someone knows something and is hoping to generate new leads in the case. “I’ve turned it all over to God,” she said, holding onto faith as she continues to search for answers.
The search for the driver who fled the scene remains ongoing, and Metro Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME, and a $5,000 cash reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
As the anniversary of her daughter’s death approaches, Hudson’s fight for justice continues. “I’ll keep going until there’s justice,” she vowed.
