NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two members of the Nashville Fire Department were injured Saturday afternoon while responding to a call in the Edgefield area of East Nashville, leading to the arrest of a man charged with multiple offenses.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, fire personnel responded around 1 p.m. on May 31 to a report of two people unconscious inside a vehicle at the intersection of Fatherland Street and South 6th Street. Upon arrival, 44-year-old Anthony Maynard Jr. had regained consciousness, but his female passenger remained unresponsive.
Authorities said Maynard became combative as a paramedic attempted to assist him. During the commotion, Maynard allegedly accelerated the vehicle, injuring two first responders in the process. Both firefighters were transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Shortly after, officers located the Kia stopped at the intersection of Marina Street and Myrtle Street, where both Maynard and his passenger were found unconscious inside the vehicle. Police administered Narcan to the passenger, who subsequently regained consciousness.
Maynard reportedly resisted arrest but was taken into custody without further incident. During an interview with law enforcement, he admitted he could not recall the events due to narcotics use. It was also confirmed that Maynard was driving with a revoked license at the time of the incident.
Maynard is currently being held on a $45,500 bond. He faces charges including two counts of aggravated assault on a first responder, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest.
