NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two individuals were arrested early Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit that began after reports of gunfire in South Nashville. The incident unfolded just after midnight when law enforcement agencies from multiple counties responded to the scene of the gunfire.
Metro Police confirmed that the pursuit began when a suspect vehicle was spotted in the area. A Metro Police helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle as it traveled through Davidson County and into a neighboring county before returning to Davidson County.
Authorities attempted to stop the vehicle by deploying spike strips along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 440, near the intersection with Interstate 40. The spike strips successfully halted the vehicle, but the suspects continued to flee on foot.
A Metro Police K9 was then brought in to assist in the search. The K9 team located the two suspects hiding in a culvert, and officers took them into custody without further incident. One of the suspects was reportedly bitten during the apprehension.
Two firearms were recovered from the scene, and both suspects were arrested on charges related to the gunfire and the subsequent chase. The incident remains under investigation as police work to determine the details surrounding the initial gunfire reports.
The swift response and collaboration between agencies from surrounding counties were key in bringing the situation to a close. Officials have not released the identities of the arrested individuals at this time, and no further injuries have been reported.
