Tennessee Highway Patrol Responds to Hundreds of Crashes Amid Friday Snowstorm

NASHVILLE, TN– The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) responded to a staggering number of incidents during the Friday snowstorm, with troopers addressing over 600 crashes across the state. According to the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security (TDHS), THP officers managed a total of 645 crashes, which included 518 property damage incidents, 127 injury crashes, and three fatalities.

One of the fatal accidents occurred in Springfield, where two young children, aged 7 and 4, lost their lives. Authorities are treating the crash as a vehicular homicide, and the investigation is ongoing.

In addition to the crashes, THP troopers assisted 874 drivers who were stranded due to the severe weather. Dispatchers were also kept busy, answering 1,708 calls from concerned residents and motorists seeking help during the storm.

The snowstorm created dangerous driving conditions across much of Tennessee, leading to numerous accidents and requiring a swift and coordinated response from emergency services throughout the state. The THP continues to urge drivers to exercise caution during winter weather events.
