NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 16-year-old was injured in a shooting Wednesday evening on Elm Hill Pike, and police are actively searching for a fourth teen suspect who fled the scene.
Metro Nashville Police Department officials said the incident began around 5:09 p.m. in the 3100 block of Elm Hill Pike when a shooting-in-progress call involving juveniles was reported. According to MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron, four teens were reportedly “probably playing with guns” at a townhome when at least one shot was fired from a pistol.
An adult upstairs heard the gunfire and rushed downstairs to find the injured teenager, who was then transported to a local hospital. The teen’s condition has not been disclosed.
Two other teens remained at the scene and have been detained for questioning as officers work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The fourth teen fled on foot, leaving behind three firearms in a nearby wooded area.
Authorities confirmed that one of the recovered weapons matched the caliber of the casing found at the scene. Additionally, one of the guns had been reported stolen earlier this year in Nashville, although it is unclear if it was the weapon used in the shooting.
“We have three individuals accounted for: one in the hospital and two here now,” Aaron said. “The fourth individual who ran — we need to find him and understand why he ran and what his motivation was in taking all of the guns and discarding them.”
Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the missing teen to come forward.
