NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 12-year-old student from Antioch Middle School has been charged after making a threat involving a gun earlier this week. The student, a 7th grader, was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged in Juvenile Court with making a false report.

According to Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officials, the student made a threat to his teacher, claiming that he would bring a gun to school. However, the student later told a school resource officer that the comment was intended as a joke. Despite this clarification, the threat was taken seriously due to the student’s history of discussing guns and similar topics, prompting a search of his backpack. No weapons were found during the search.

The arrest came on the same day that Metro Nashville leaders voted in favor of installing weapon detection systems in all high schools across the district. Dr. Adrienne Battle, the director of Metro Schools, emphasized that while the new security measure is not a perfect solution, it is part of a broader strategy to ensure student safety.

This incident highlights growing concerns about safety in schools, prompting both law enforcement and educational leaders to take swift action in response to potential threats.
