NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A shooting in the Germantown neighborhood Wednesday afternoon left one person dead and another in custody, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Officers responded to a call at approximately 3 p.m. at the KFC located at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. Upon arrival, authorities found a 40-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. The victim was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment but was later pronounced dead. The MNPD confirmed the individual’s identity at 5:29 p.m., though efforts to notify the victim’s next of kin were still underway at the time of publication.

Investigators said that the suspect, 30-year-old Isaiah Alexander Maston, fled the scene on foot. However, officers were able to apprehend him shortly after near a nearby apartment building. Police also recovered a weapon from Maston.

According to a press release from the MNPD, the incident began when Maston’s unleashed dog approached the victim and a woman outside the KFC. The two reportedly had a brief verbal altercation, after which the woman walked toward Rosa L. Parks Boulevard. Maston then allegedly fired several shots at the victim, striking him.

Maston has been charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault. His bond has been set at $210,000. The dog involved in the incident was taken into custody by Metro Animal Care and Control.

The MNPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
