TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — A Tullahoma man is dead following a shooting that occurred during a police attempt to serve a warrant at his place of business on West Lincoln Street. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to District Attorney Craig Northcott.
The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Thomas Hackworth. Northcott confirmed that the warrant was related to a sexual assault on a minor charge out of Michigan. The confrontation led to Hackworth sustaining a gunshot wound to the roof of his mouth.
At this time, details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting are still under investigation. District Attorney Northcott indicated that more information would be released as the investigation progresses.
Law enforcement agencies have not provided specific information regarding whether police or Hackworth discharged the firearm.
