CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. — A member of the Coopertown Police Department was injured in a crash on Highway 49 in Cheatham County Wednesday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. on February 19, when a red 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, traveling eastbound on Highway 49, attempted to turn at the intersection with Highway 41A. At the same time, a 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a Coopertown police officer, was traveling westbound toward the same intersection.
THP’s preliminary investigation reveals the driver of the Dodge failed to yield the right of way, turning directly in front of the police vehicle and striking the front left side of the Tahoe. In-car video from the Dodge confirmed that the Chevrolet had a green light at the time of the crash.
Coopertown Police Chief Tyler Haley confirmed that the officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. The officer was treated at the hospital and released shortly thereafter. Chief Haley also emphasized that the incident was not weather-related.
Charges are currently pending against the driver of the Dodge Ram 1500, THP reported. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
No further details have been made available at this time as the investigation continues.
