Nashville, TN — A 54-year-old Nashville man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian Monday morning on Porter Road.

Michael D. Williams, of Nashville, faces multiple charges, including vehicular assault by recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, and driving on a revoked license. Williams was apprehended after fleeing the scene of the crash, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. near 1505 Porter Road.

According to preliminary reports from Metro Nashville Police, Williams was behind the wheel of a Nissan Armada when he attempted to turn left onto Porter Road from the Berkshire Place Apartments. Investigators say Williams lost control of the vehicle, causing it to spin 180 degrees and jump the sidewalk, where it struck a pedestrian walking nearby. The impact threw the victim, a 54-year-old man, into the roadway, resulting in critical injuries. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.

A nearby home’s surveillance video reportedly showed Williams accelerating just before the crash, with the road conditions being wet at the time of the incident. Following the collision, Williams fled the scene in his SUV, heading north on Porter Road.

A witness who observed the crash followed Williams’ vehicle to a residence on Riverside Drive, where police later located and arrested him. Williams was taken into custody without further incident.

Williams is currently being held in the Metro Jail on a $35,000 bond. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The injured pedestrian, whose name has not been released, remains in critical condition.
