Nashville, TN — A 24-year-old Nashville man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after Mt. Juliet police discovered he was in possession of a handgun that had been reported stolen. The firearm was recovered during a routine traffic stop near Providence Marketplace, following a violation of handicapped parking rules.

According to a post from the Mt. Juliet Police Department, officers observed the parking infraction before pulling the vehicle over. Upon conducting the traffic stop, officers found that the driver was carrying a handgun that had been reported stolen in connection with a car burglary in Nashville back in September 2024.

The suspect was taken into custody, and the stolen firearm was seized. Police did not release the suspect’s name, but noted this was not his first encounter with the law. Tyler Chandler, deputy chief of the Mt. Juliet Police Department, told News 2 that the individual had previously been arrested at the age of 17 in connection with a shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old. However, Chandler added, the conviction was later overturned following an appeal.

The recovery of the stolen firearm highlights ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat gun violence and property crimes in the region. Authorities are continuing to investigate the suspect’s connections and past criminal activity.
