Mt. Juliet, Tenn. — A 47-year-old Nashville man was arrested Sunday after being caught with stolen merchandise worth over $500, following a series of investigations involving a stolen vehicle and multiple warrants.

On January 19, the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) was alerted to a Nissan Frontier that had been stolen from Nashville on January 10. The vehicle was detected entering Mt. Juliet via Interstate 40 by the city’s Guardian Shield license plate recognition system. Officers located the vehicle parked at Academy Sports and Outdoors, and surveillance was initiated.

As officers monitored the situation, a man exited the store carrying more than $500 worth of stolen items. The suspect, later identified as the 47-year-old, was quickly apprehended without incident.

Further investigation revealed the suspect was wanted in Nashville for four warrants, including probation violations and shoplifting charges. Additionally, he was also wanted in Mt. Juliet for a previous shoplifting incident.

The arrest highlights the effectiveness of Mt. Juliet’s license plate recognition system, which helped authorities track down a suspect with multiple criminal offenses.
