GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. — The remains of 31-year-old Tyler Curtis, a man who went missing more than a month ago, were discovered in a wooded area of Fiery Gizzard Trail in Grundy County on Sunday, March 23.
According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the human remains were positively identified as Curtis, who had last been seen walking away from his home in the 1700 block of Pigeon Springs Road in Tracy City during the late night hours on February 21. Authorities had previously reported that Curtis, who suffered from a medical condition, had not taken his medication at the time of his disappearance.
While the cause of death has not been definitively determined, law enforcement officials have stated that foul play is not currently suspected. However, they have also emphasized that it has not been completely ruled out as part of the ongoing investigation.
“The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the Curtis family during this incredibly difficult time,” the agency wrote in a statement shared on social media.
The search for Curtis involved multiple local agencies, including the Grundy County Medical Examiner’s Office, fire and rescue teams from within the county, Sewanee Fire and Rescue, and the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). Constables Kyle Collins and Chris Boyd, along with volunteers and state park rangers, also contributed to the recovery efforts in the Fiery Gizzard area.
No further details have been released about the circumstances surrounding Curtis’ discovery, and authorities continue to investigate the incident.
This tragic event has deeply affected the Tracy City community, and local authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation into the case.
