Elderly Woman Fatally Injured in Hit-and-Run on Wingate Avenue Identified

Nashville, TN — The woman who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident on Wingate Avenue Sunday afternoon has been identified as 82-year-old Jianzhu Yu of Nashville.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers from the South Precinct responded at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, after a nearby resident discovered Yu lying in the roadway near the intersection of Wingate Avenue and Sunrise Avenue.

The woman, initially believed to be around 83 years old, was immediately transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. Sadly, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The preliminary investigation, conducted by the Crash Investigation Unit, reveals that Yu was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Police are actively searching for the driver and the vehicle involved, but have not yet released any information about the suspect or the vehicle’s description.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the incident. Individuals with tips are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible for a cash reward.

The Medical Examiner’s office is assisting with the ongoing investigation to confirm the identity of the victim and gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
