Wilson County, TN – Authorities in Wilson County are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the closure of a local road. The incident, which unfolded in the 5000 block of Benders Ferry Road, began around 4 p.m. when officers responded to a call related to a domestic violence situation.

According to Major Walker Woods of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the scene and discovered that a man had barricaded himself inside a home. As the standoff continued, the situation eventually escalated into an officer-involved shooting. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has confirmed that the event occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Authorities say that when the man exited the residence, he allegedly fired a handgun at Wilson County deputies. In response, deputies returned fire, striking and killing the suspect. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with the TBI leading the inquiry. “There is no additional threat to the community at this time,” Major Woods stated in a press release. “The TBI will be investigating fully to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

As a result of the investigation, Benders Ferry Road was closed for several hours, prompting traffic disruptions in the area. Local law enforcement has assured the public that there is no ongoing danger to residents.

At this time, further details surrounding the events leading up to the shooting have not been released, as the TBI continues to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending notification of family members.

The officer-involved shooting marks the latest in a series of high-profile incidents across the country, underscoring the challenges faced by law enforcement when responding to volatile domestic situations.
