Nashville, Tenn. – A 42-year-old man was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a semi truck on Interstate 24 near Whites Creek, according to Metro Police. The collision occurred in the westbound lanes near mile marker 37 just before 2 a.m.

The deceased, identified as Pritam “Peter” Singh, was a passenger in a Nissan Altima. The Altima was involved in a crash with a Volvo tractor-trailer, which resulted in Singh’s death at the scene.

Authorities say the semi truck was traveling westbound in the right lane when it moved to the left to avoid a broken-down vehicle that had been pulled over on the right shoulder. As the truck returned to the right lane, the Altima, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, passed the semi on the right side. The Altima struck the trailer tires, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll into the tree line.

The 30-year-old driver of the Altima and a 19-year-old rear seat passenger were both transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

No signs of impairment were detected from either driver, and Metro Police continue to investigate the incident.

In the wake of the crash, westbound lanes of Interstate 24 were closed near the scene. Motorists were diverted at Exit 40 in Whites Creek, with the roadway reopening around 6 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to release further details.
