NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Nashville man was arrested last Friday following an extensive investigation into the sharing of child sexual abuse material on a messaging app. Maxim Kesel, 30, was taken into custody on April 4, after authorities traced the illegal activity back to his two registered IP addresses in Davidson County.

The investigation, which began in 2024, was sparked by online tips regarding the distribution of explicit material through Kik, a popular messaging app. Kesel, who resided on Brittany Park Drive in Antioch and Donelson Pike in Nashville, allegedly shared numerous images and videos of child pornography across multiple instances.

According to court documents, Kesel admitted during an interview with detectives that he had intentionally sought out and shared the illicit content, though he claimed his actions were driven by curiosity rather than sexual attraction to minors. Despite this, officials have emphasized the severity of his actions, noting that the sharing of such material is a serious criminal offense with significant legal consequences.

Kesel has been charged with one count of felony aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor for distributing 26 or more items of child pornography, along with two additional counts for sharing between one and 25 items. He was booked into the Davidson County Male Correctional Development Center.

This case highlights the growing concern over online platforms being used to distribute child sexual abuse material. Law enforcement officials continue to stress the importance of monitoring and reporting suspicious activity online to help protect vulnerable children from exploitation.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected criminal activity involving child exploitation, as they work to combat the spread of illegal material on digital platforms.
