MT. JULIET, Tenn. — A routine traffic stop on Tuesday morning led to the arrest of a 46-year-old man from Nashville, who was found in possession of a stolen handgun. The Mt. Juliet Police Department initiated the stop along Belinda Parkway after noticing a suspended license plate on the vehicle.

During the stop, officers discovered that the driver, a convicted felon, was carrying a firearm that had been reported stolen. Further investigation revealed that the handgun had been taken from Murfreesboro exactly ten years ago on the day of the arrest.

The man, whose name has not been released by authorities, was arrested and charged with two offenses: possession of a stolen firearm and being a felon in possession of a handgun. Both charges are serious, especially given the long history of the stolen weapon.

Mt. Juliet Police emphasized the importance of vigilance during traffic stops and praised the officers for uncovering the firearm, which had been missing for a decade. The case serves as a reminder of how stolen firearms can resurface years after being reported as lost or taken, posing ongoing risks to public safety.

The suspect is currently being held at the Wilson County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
