MT. JULIET, Tenn. — Authorities in Mt. Juliet seized several firearms during separate traffic stops Monday afternoon, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat illegal weapon possession in the area.

In the first incident, a vehicle was observed traveling at 90 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone along Interstate 40 East. Mt. Juliet police conducted a traffic stop and discovered the 16-year-old driver, a resident of Lebanon, in possession of two Glock handguns, each equipped with extended magazines. One of the firearms had been reported stolen out of Wayne County on December 24, 2024.

Later the same afternoon, officers stopped another vehicle heading toward Interstate 40 West. During the stop, they identified a 33-year-old convicted felon from Nashville who was unlawfully in possession of multiple firearms. As a result, the man was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

The incidents have raised concerns about illegal firearms circulation and the potential dangers posed by individuals in possession of such weapons. Local authorities have continued to focus on ensuring public safety through vigilant traffic enforcement and weapons checks.
