MACON COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities in Macon County are assuring the public that there is no credible threat after investigating a possible security concern at Macon County Junior High School on Thursday. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly to a reported threat made by a student at the school.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the school resource officer and principal at Macon County Junior High became aware of the threat on Thursday morning. The student was immediately searched and questioned upon the discovery of the threat. Deputies and detectives followed up with an evening search of the student’s home, conducting a threat assessment and pursuing additional leads related to the incident.

After a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials concluded that there was no credible threat to the safety of students or staff.

In a Facebook post, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office expressed their gratitude to the public for providing useful information, stating, “Thank you to the public for providing information about the threat. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to take these cases seriously to provide the safest environment possible for our schools.”

This investigation comes on the heels of a similar incident earlier in the week, when Greenbrier Middle School was placed on lockdown following a bomb threat. The situation was later cleared after a police sweep found no dangerous items on the premises.

The Macon County investigation also follows a series of arrests made last month in Middle Tennessee, where several students were taken into custody for making school threats in districts including Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Authorities continue to prioritize school safety, emphasizing that all threats will be treated with the utmost seriousness.
