NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Nashville Police are searching for a shopper involved in a robbery that escalated into a deadly shooting and crash at Green Hills Mall on February 4.

Authorities say 31-year-old Genesis Denton, a man with an Illinois driver’s license, was confronted by an armed suspect while walking to his car. The suspect, driving a Tesla, robbed Denton before fleeing the scene. Denton, who was driving a Volvo SUV, then drove off, with the suspect following behind.

As Denton attempted to flee, he was shot by the gunman. While driving away from the scene, Denton lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree near the I-65 north entrance ramp from I-440. Denton was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

Detectives identified Denton through information provided by the Louis Vuitton store inside the mall. Police have since arrested Omari Moore, the passenger in the Tesla, who has been charged with aggravated robbery in connection with the incident.

At this time, authorities are seeking to question Denton in relation to the robbery and subsequent shooting. Despite the tragic outcome of the event, police say Denton has not made any known attempts to contact law enforcement regarding the robbery.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Denton’s whereabouts to contact the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together the details of the events leading up to the deadly crash.
